Black love just feels different
Get to know Sonya Harris-Oguzor
Sonya began writing poetry at the tender age of 12 as an assignment in school. She enjoyed it so much that she requested classes on the weekend to learn more about the craft. She wrote poems about the life that she lived up to that point and the life that she wanted to live in the future. Later when she was about 14 years old, she heard spoken word poetry (by the poet Marsha Carter) and became obsessed with it for an entire year. While in high school she was gifted her first camera and began making short films. Around that time she wrote her first novel, Miguel & I which later was copy written as Jibril & I. While in college, she casually wrote short stories for years but did not publish another novel until after she was married in 2017.
Sonya is a Detroit, MI native who writes romance that pulls from her Christian faith to create Black love stories that sometimes teach.
